We fell in love with La Bastide, a free city on the outskirts of Basque, France. There is an old farm and a collapsed rural agricultural building. From the outside, the house is like any farmhouse in the Basque area. It is a huge and simple building. When we open its door for the first time, we expect to encounter the dark, damp central space commonly known as ezkatz.. The roof caved in and pulled the upper floor, turning the house into a forest and its main room into an open space.

What we want is free: ecological services. In winter, the sun directly heats the 70 cm thick stone wall, and the air/water heat pump heats the floor. The wall turns the house into a stove. Since there is no CMV system (some of us have forgotten that air can circulate naturally without any engine or electricity), the inertia of uninsulated walls enables the house to breathe completely quietly. (Note: CMV system is the brand of commercial air conditioning system)

The barn is located at the back of the house. The original barn is reserved for technical and working space, so it has neither insulation nor heating.Our beliefs.Only when the landscape and residents become part of the house can the house live?
