Sprawled across 50 hectares near the town of Franschhoek, the retreat is anchored by a soulfully restored 17th-century homestead, reimagined in collaboration with interior designer Gregory Mellor, housing just 11 meticulously curated suites—each a sanctuary of art, craft, and understated luxury. Sterrekopje’s story is one of serendipity as well as vision. Boekhoorn describes their encounter with the historic farm as “an innate knowing”; “it was not something specific that I saw; it was a deep feeling,” she recalls. The name itself, Sterrekopje—meaning “the bright star above the little mountain”—felt like a celestial nod to their purpose. Over the past three years, the couple has carefully restored the land, reviving its fertility through regenerative farming practices and biodiversity-focused cultivation. Today, over 100 varieties of indigenous and heritage plants thrive here, forming a symbiotic ecosystem where soil health and human well-being are cherished in equal measure.

Some are nestled within the historic Main House, offering a sense of intimacy with their cozy nooks and private terraces overlooking the gardens. Others are scattered across the farm, providing more expansive living spaces where deep bathtubs, open fireplaces, and handcrafted furnishings foster moments of quiet indulgence. The most elaborate suites feature spa-like bathrooms, sun-dappled terraces, and carefully curated antiques that feel both storied and effortlessly elegant.
