In the south of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, there is poetics, talent and love; Jiangnan in the misty rain is poetic, picturesque and dreamlike. Since ancient times, literatus and poets have been longing for Jiangnan in the misty rain. Nowadays, everyone also yearns for it.

本项目中的民房庭院，即坐落在风景秀美的江南杭州。房子的主要功能，是用于朋友之间的进餐叙旧，品茗谈天。庭院由于多年没人打理，草木杂乱无章，再加上原来的露台经过风吹日晒、虫咬腐烂而坍塌，所以需要进行外观的整体改造。设计师在民房改造过程中，精心构思，巧妙设计，将艺术性与功能性融于一体，营造出烟雨江南的古雅意境。

Located in Hangzhou with beautiful landscape, the private courtyard in this project is designed for friends to talk about the old days while having a meal and chat with each other while tasting tea. Because the yard has been left without anybody to care for it for many years, there are weeds everywhere in the yard; besides, after being exposed to the weather and bit by insects, the original gazebo has collapsed. Therefore, it is necessary to renovate the overall appearance of the yard. During the renovation, the designer integrated artistry with functionality through careful conception and well design and created the ancient and elegant artistic conception of Jiangnan in the misty rain.

针对房子外观，设计师从自然景观的融入性考虑，选择了木头作为外立面的主要材料，把原来的门窗重新做了梳理，基本都改成了面向庭院的移门。这一设计，保留了原有建筑古色古香的江南韵味，让人感觉仿佛时间在这里驻足。

For the appearance of the house, the designer chose wood as the main material for the external facade after considering the integration of natural landscape, sorted out the original windows and doors and adopted the sliding doors facing the yard. This design keeps the antique Jiangnan charm of the original building, so that people will feel that time travels backward here.

为了防止木头结构再次被虫咬风化，设计师用钢结构柱体，在房子外独立成新的结构体系，不跟老房子发生力量关系，保障建筑的安全性。同时，设计师采用风吹日晒多年的老木头做为柱子的外表皮和移门材料，尽量保持木头的稳定性。这样不仅保证了房子的功能性，还在视觉上让空间更具立体感、层次感，让建筑的古韵得以延伸。

In order to protect the wood structure from being bit by insects and weathered, the designer adopted the steel structure pillar, forming a new structural system independent from the house and guaranteeing the safety of the building with no strength relationship with the old house. In the meantime, the designer tried to maintain the stability of wood by using the old wood which has been exposed to weather for many times as the surface of the pillar and the material of sliding door, which guarantees the functionality of the house while making the space three-dimensional and layered visually and extending the ancient charm of the building.

由于原建筑的屋檐高度不够，但房屋主人又希望延续江南建筑的黑瓦观感，因此设计师在阳台的顶上，再建了一个跟原建筑屋顶相同坡度的屋檐，跟原来的老屋檐形成一个叠层的效果。两个屋檐相得益彰，黑瓦叠层，墨色欲滴，让建筑显得更加立体丰富，更有历史感。

However, because the owner wants to continue the black tiles on Jiangnan buildings despite the low roof of the original building, the designer added the eave with the same slope gradient as the original roof, which forms an effect of laminated construction with the original old roof. Two roofs bring out best in each other, and laminated black tiles make the building more dimensional, rich and retro.

在重建二楼塌掉的露台上，设计师加盖了一个顶，从此任凭风吹雨打，也不用挂怀。在江南的烟雨天气里，三五知己可以在阳台尽情地品茗观景，体验“一蓑烟雨任平生”的快意。

During the process of reconstructing the collapsed gazebo, the designer added a roof which protects the gazebo from wind and rain. In the misty rain, friends can admire the view while tasting tea on the balcony and experience the joy of having a life in the palm-bark rain cape despite wind and rain.

阳台靠外侧的栏杆，设计师采用了锈铁片材料，保持跟木线条同样纤细的感觉，让它们在光阴里自然发生变化，并逐渐与整体建筑浑然一体，融于江南情调。

For the outside handrail on the balcony, the designer adopted the rust iron plate as slim as the wood molding and gradually integrate them into the overall building and the emotional appeal of Jiangnan through natural changes as time passes.

庭院的改造，颇具匠心。设计师保留了原来的树木，让庭院的往昔得以保存，也让主人的记忆得以延续。

The renovation of the yard shows the designer’s ingenuity. While keeping the original trees, the designer retained the past yard and continued the owner’s memories.

在庭院中，设计师清理出一片空地，铺上灰色小石子和苔藓，让建筑和植物之间多了一个灰色地带。这也让整个空间格调，更多了几分历史韵味。踩在石子上，仿佛能听到历史的脚步声，嗅到江南的烟火气。

In the yard, a clearing paved with grey stone and mosses is left by the designer, which adds a grey zone between the building and plants and endows the overall space with a bit of historic charm. While stepping on the stone, people can seemingly hear the steps of history and smell the mortal world in Jiangnan.

老房子的围墙，围上了竹篱笆。移植几颗松树和红花继木，作为室内外空间的对景。这的布局设计，不仅保障了整个庭院的风格统一，这让整个空间更加饱满有层次，更加丰富有意境。

Around the old house, the bamboo fence is set. Several pine trees and China Loropetal are transplanted as the opposite scenery of the indoor and outdoor space. This layout design makes the space full, layered, rich and artistic while guaranteeing the unified style of the yard.

在整个项目设计中，灌溉苔藓用的喷雾系统尤为吸睛。喷雾蒙蒙，恰好营造出江南烟雨如诗如梦的意境。这让设计的艺术性和和实用性，有了一个完美的契合点。

In the overall project design, the spray system for irrigating the mosses is attractive. The spray adequately creates the poetic and dreamlike conception of Jiangnan in the misty rain and integrates with the artistry and practicability of the design.

尤其到了晚上，朦胧的雾气，加上走廊里和院子里的点照灯，这让整个庭院更加古雅如梦。走进庭院，恍惚间就像走进了烟雨江南，走进了历史深处。

Especially at night, the hazy fog makes the yard ancient, elegant and dreamlike by cooperating with the light in the hallway and yard. While stepping in the yard, people will feel like walking into Jiangnan in the misty rain and the depth of the history.
